It's everywhere you turn - from Extreme Makeover to America's Next Top Model, from Hollywood celebrities to a music industry that favors image over talent, from the constant hype of diet companies and exercise equipment companies to the models screaming "look at me, I'm beautiful!" in every TV commercial, print ad, and catalogue in the free world. If you're not young, drop dead gorgeous, thin to the point of anorexic, then you're a Loser. L-O-S-E-R, loser. Luh-who-zer. It's a scam, and it's untrue, but it doesn't matter, we still fall for it, and even worse, we fall for a superficial image that is fed to us on a daily basis by the media and those who stand to make a fortune off of our insecurities. How's your complexion? Damn, girl, if you would just spend four or five hundred dollars a month on this crap, you would look just like (your favorite celebrity/model's name here). How's your figure? You know, if you'd just lose a few pounds, and with a few thousand dollars in cosmetic surgery, liposuction, and breast implants, YOU could be the next supermodel. Look at these models, don't they look deliriously happy? Okay, now you're finally ready to go out and be truly happy. Wait a minute, you're not gonna wear THAT, are you? You're so lucky I showed up, by the time I'm done with you, you won't even recognize yourself, and believe you me, that's a good thing. So, if I could just get all of your credit card numbers, you'll be as happy as a supermodel in a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue in no time. Hmmmm, how can I put this that so that my anal retentive editor won't censor it? I know, BULLSHIT! I'm seen America's Next Top Model, and she wasn't on a lame-ass reality show. And while some people might disagree with me, it's because they're looking AT her, not INTO her. There's an old saying that beauty is only skin deep, and another that says that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but the faulking truth is, beauty shines from the inside out. I've seen the most beautiful girl in the world, and it's because I looked into her, not at her. If you were too busy checking out her ass, or ogling her breasts, or being distracted by her face, then you didn't really see her at all. You got suckered by the same image merchants that are telling her that she isn't quite thin enough, sexy enough, or hot enough to earn the title of the "The most beautiful girl in the world". You've seen her too, and if you looked into her instead of at her, then you know that she is the most beautiful girl in the world, without a doubt. And chances are, the girl you're looking at isn't the same one that I'm talking about. Forget the bullshit that you're been fed, forget the superficial image that "they" keep telling us to lust after, and instead, do this. The next time you meet someone, or even if you just pass by a girl in the mall or notice her from across the room, resist the urge to check out her ass first, don't be distracted by her face, and whatever you do, don't let your first impression of her be of her "breassesses". Instead, look into her eyes, gaze into her soul, and look for the inner beauty and the glow that makes her special as a person. THEN, and only then, is it okay to pull your gaze back and let her physical traits soak in, because by then, you will have already determined that she's perfect in YOUR eyes, and her inner beauty will radiate from the inside out, and you will see her for what she is....the most beautiful girl in the world. If every one of us can learn to do that simple thing, then we will all be able to say to ourselves what I've known all along. The world is full of "the most beautiful girls in the world", and it doesn't have a damn thing to do with what's on the outside, no more than the worth of a gift can be measured by the flashiness of the package that it comes in. And the sooner we realize that, the sooner we will all feel beautiful, and the sooner we will see that beauty in others. Learn to see beauty from the inside out, and maybe someday every one of us will know how it feels to be one of the beautiful people. How does it feel to be One of the beautiful people? Now that you know who you are. What do you want to be? And have you travelled very far? Far as the eyes can see How does it feel to be One of the beautiful people? How often have you been there? Often enough to know What did you see when you were there? Nothing that doesn't show Baby you're a rich man Baby you're a rich man Baby you're a rich man too Happy Valentine's Day to the beautiful girls of the Faulking Truth, and to all the beautiful girls in my life.....
