- Bush is a Democrat!
   by Down the Middle

“Bush is a Democrat!!!” That’s what he said, “Bush is a Democrat!”

First hearing the words, I couldn’t help but smile…but having known him for several years, I understood exactly what he was attempting to convey. I suppose I had never given him much credit for anything other than his loyalist following of the Republican Party line, complete with verbal demonstrations of his venomous hatred for Teddy Kennedy (I believe “trash” was the word) and any other “bleeding heart liberal.” They were all “Commies” to him. But now, something was terribly amiss.

Although I hadn’t seen him much, since that “first” election, I knew he was not the type to change horses in midstream. He was >all conservative, and always would be. My Right Wing friend had just realized that the Republican candidate he had helped put in the Whitehouse…wasn’t really a Republican at all. Of course, nor were the cabinet ministers, the judges, and the many other appointees he chose to bring with him. They were an all-new but deceptively different breed of conservative…these Neo-cons.

I can appreciate my friend’s predicament. He had always voted Republican, as his father before him, expecting the Republican Party to be, uh…the Republican Party. After all, these “new conservatives” did sport many of the same trappings. There was certainly never any doubt of Bush’s support for Big Business and there was never any question that this man from Texas, who was “walkin’ the walk” would kick the shit out of any infidel, foreign or domestic…or at least, have someone do it for him.

Unfortunately for the political stability of my friend, he had eventually begun to realize that his conservative President was doing some pretty damn liberal things…like spending every damn dime in the Treasury, as if he hadn’t already spent it the year before…and by increasing the size of the government, every bit as fast as he had increased the size of the war. Oh, Hell! Bush must be a Democrat!

But wait a minute! If the Republicans have gone Democrat…then, who are the Democrats? At one time, they represented the little guy… the common man, both his rights and his job. Now, it seems, they don’t care about either. In fact, these Neo-libs seemed to be doing some pretty damn conservative things, themselves. On the issues that most affect the common man, most of the Democrats are voting right down the party line. Unfortunately, it’s the wrong party!!! But Democrats don’t vote to steal away our liberties…or do they?

The words still ring in my ear, from thirty-five years ago when thousands of conservative Democrats began leaving the Party, due to it’s new found liberalism. To a man, they would tell you “I didn’t leave the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party left me!” Now, the Republican Party is beginning to experience a like movement from disappointed conservatives…but where do they go? The conservative Democrats of the seventies crossed over to the more conservative Republicans…but where can disenfranchised Democrats and disappointed Republicans go today? The Parties are one.

By consolidating the two powers into a virtually single-minded, governmental entity, your Congresspersons have not only sold out the Party values that you thought you were voting for but they sold out your choice…your argument. In a system where the people’s only true hope lies in debate before compromise, our representatives seem to have already found the common ground, with their common greed.

In a frail attempt to maintain a balance between the two extremes, we have whacked the ball back and forth between these two parties for decades…and somehow, always ending up with the people coming out on the “short end of the stick”. We need a conservative government in the matters of money…and we need a liberal government when it concerns the protection of our freedoms. Instead of finding both, I fear we have neither.

No longer can we look to a traditional political affiliation to represent us. The time has long passed when Republicans were Republicans and Democrats were Democrats, as the so-called two-party system has been buried away, killed off by the traitors of each and morphed into a hybrid politic of central control and domination, which in the end will leave us with only two choices…Fascist socialism or Communist socialism. Some choice, huh?

This is not a failure of the system, as such…but a failure of our representatives, who we have been forced (by no other choice) to elect…and the “slow lie”, with which they have deceived us into giving up our country to their New World Order.

We must no longer “vote the Party” but find alternative candidates that more reflect our own judgment and virtues. If that person can be found within the Democratic or Republican Parties, then so be it…but if not, we must be true to ourselves and our country, by seeking out a third party or independent candidate who will vote for the American people.

If you just can’t seem to find an honest candidate, then vote for my dog. He may steal a cheeseburger from the Congressional cafeteria…but he won’t steal the farm from which it came.
