- Politicians Gone Wild
   by Mark Faulk

I have to say this right now: I'M GLAD THE ELECTION IS OVER. And I'm not alone in that sentiment, I've heard it from dozens of our readers, from friends, and from family. This election rivals the old Tammany Hall days of Boss Tweed, or the Chicago "Vote early, vote often" era. It's been ugly, it's been brutal, and it degrades the American people. I truly believe that the majority of the true venom has been spewed by a minute portion of the populous....unfortunately, I also believe that that minority is in control of our country.

And then there's the media. It's become obvious that the consolidation of our media into a few mega-corporate monopolies has totally skewed the news that we are force fed on a daily basis. They have done more to divide our country than anyone else. They are "haters", both to the right and to the left. Their hatred has sucked a lot of good-hearted people into the mire, and made all of us act in ways that we aren't entirely proud of. Shame on them, and shame on us for allowing ourselves to be lowered to their level.

The fact is, the rest of us were trapped in the crossfire. We wanted to do the right thing, we wanted to be nice people, we wanted to respect the rights of those who disagreed with us, but this election has been waged like a Spring Break mud-wrestling contest. And unfortunately, the only way we could compete was to put on our thongs, oil up our bodies, leap headfirst into the muck, and start pulling hair. As a result, a lot of people, both Democrats AND Republicans, were forced to lower ourselves to the level of....God forgive us.....the politicians.

It's time for healing. It's time to get up out of the mud, hose ourselves off, cover our asses with some kind of cute little flowered sarong, kiss and make up. We have to fix what's broken, and we have to work together in order to do it. Until we agree that there are some things that we all have in common, and that there are indeed many things that need to be fixed in our country, the hatred will continue. It's time to bury the hatchet, and not in our opponent's head.

Here at the Faulking Truth, we will continue to speak out on the issues, and we will continue to be a voice for those who have been disenfranchised by a corrupt system. However, let me say this: WE ARE ALL AMERICANS, and we need to respect that. It's still us against them, but the truth is, "us" is the American people, and "them" is the the political power structure that has screwed all of us for years. Both parties are guilty, it's just a matter of degrees.

I say that, and I don't even know who won the damn election yet (it's looking like Bush, but I don't want to make the same mistake that the media made four years ago). Hell, I don't even know what the electoral count is right now. Here's how divided the media is, how polarized (and yet clueless) those who profess to "know the truth" are. At 12:30 EST, here's the electoral count on the three "news" stations:
MSNBC:
Bush 219, Kerry 206
CNN:
Bush 234, Kerry 188
FOX:
Bush 246, Kerry 206

So, once again, there you have it. Bush is ahead by 13, I mean 46....uh, 40 electoral votes.
If we can't even agree on who has won what state, then we're a long way from agreeing on what we need to do to restore our country to greatness and prosperity. In the meantime, can we at least agree that it's time to do something to bring us back together? For America's sake, I hope so. And that's the Faulking Truth.

(Editor's note: This article was first posted as a Blogest 2005 entry a mere hour ago. Since then, it appears that Bush will win the election. However, both parties are busy putting on their thongs in a fight to the finish over Ohio's electoral votes. I'm hoping that at least the daughters of the two candidate will stand in for the candidates themselves when the actual mud-wrestling begins. At least then it would be entertaining. Throw in Cheney's gay daughter, and it could get really interesting. Just an idea.)
