- TIME FOR A NATIONAL DAY OF PROTEST!!!
by Mark Faulk As the Worldwide Occupation reaches a month of protests, I hope that we are not unaware of the implications and opportunity for lasting change that exists in this movement. I hope that we realize that we have a chance to participate in Democracy at all levels (and not just as protestors), and that we should be preparing for that opportunity. We are here not to bury Democracy, but to resurrect it.
Our experiences are as diverse as our members, we have a million different stories, but a singular message: We are here to regain our voice, our vote, and our rightful place in the democratic process. Our government has been hijacked in the almighty name of profit and corporate greed.
My personal wish list for OccupyAmerica and OccupyOKC:
A NATIONAL DAY OF OCCUPATION, WHERE WE ENCOURAGE EVERYONE IN THE COUNTRY TO TAKE OFF FROM WORK OR WHATEVER THEY'RE DOING FOR A SINGLE DAY AND JOIN US FOR A SHOW OF UNIFIED STRENGTH. Take a sick day from work, a day of vacation, join the movement. This movement is for everyone, liberal and conservative, young and old, all races, lifestyles, occupations, every walk of life.
We need to fill the streets of America for a single day, and show the politicians, the media, and the world that we are a force to be reckoned with. SEND A MESSAGE!
We need long term goals, this is a movement, not just an occupation. We should have an infrastructure put into place to affect legislation through:
1. Qualified appointed committees who meet with congressional leaders and state legislators, draft legislation, etc.
2. An army of occupiers who bombard targeted politicians, the media, etc. to show our strength.
3. A plan put into place for when the weather turns bad, so that we continue with indoor town hall type events, etc.
4. National committees who help craft a platform with input from each faction of the 99% (labor, students, elderly, disabled, veterans, etc.)
5. Draft and support qualified candidates from the movement who represent all of America (and not just the 1%) to run for public office at all levels of government.
We are the 99% and we demand to have a say in the democratic process!
