The Faulking Truth broke 90,000 hits for January, up another 25% per month for the seventh month in a row. And that's not all: I deposited a fat check from Google to the tune of $101.87 in my account today, and that's only for the past three months. Do the math, faulkers, that's an average of uh......let's see, $101.87 divided by 3, carry the 1, multiply the ratio of....well, it's a pretty sweet payoff, at this rate we will be at break even in 2038. Yeah, baby! If every hit was cash coming in, we'd be rolling in ducets right now. Another way to look at it: at the rate we are growing, our hit total will surpass the national debt sometime in the year 2348. Eat your heart out, Dubya! Okay, shareholders, that was our official financial report for the month....now let's get to the articles. A usual, I've been slow in updating everyone. In fact, I'm finishing up a Blogfest 2005 entry about my annoying tendency to procrastinate entitled "The Land Where Time (Almost) Stood Still". That one should be posted, ummmm, any minute now. "With God on our Side: A Minister Speaks out for Peace" By Robin Meyers Tonight, I join ranks of those who are angry, because I have watched as the faith I love has been taken over by fundamentalists who claim to speak for Jesus, but whose actions are anything but Christian....War is the greatest failure of the human race- and thus the greatest failure of faith. "The Election That Bush Couldn't Win" By Mark Faulk Despite spending millions of American taxpayer dollars in Iraq on TV ads and putting the full weight of American support behind Ayad Allawi, the interim prime minister, Allawi was trounced in the election by the United Iraqi Alliance (UIA), whose leaders have close ties to Iran, by a four to one margin. "The American Way of Life is Not Negotiable" By Robin Buckallew Look around you. Pay close attention to what you see. This, what surrounds you, this is the American way of life that is "not negotiable", that is "blessed". The toasters, the DVD players, the SUVs, the Wal-Marts, the Coca-Colas, and the endless doo-dads and gadgets that seem to us to be necessary to make our lives bearable. "Strange Days, Indeed!" By Down The Middle April 19th quickly became the strangest day in Oklahoma City history. Never before had there been such an eerie feeling hanging in the air. The scream of sirens penetrated the far reaches of the metro area, and they literally never stopped. "An Open Letter to the Red States" By Robin Buckallew To my red state brothers and sisters, I would like to relate a bedtime story. Once upon a time (all bedtime stories begin "once upon a time", or they cannot truly be considered bedtime stories). Once upon a time, a man named George Bush was president of the United States, a rich and powerful nation somewhere to the west of Europe and the south of Canada. "The Wind in the Trees" By Mark Faulk and Sheralyn Faulk He says "I used to walk alone at night And still I felt secure But now it's locks upon the windows And bolts on all the doors" As always, there are several new entries in Blogfest 2005 ( http://www.faulkingtruth.com/blog/ ), including commentaries on the Inauguration, the national debt, organized religion, and a tribute to (and by) Johnny Carson, and uh, of course, the one I'm posting "as we speak". And don't forget to check out our latest "Letters to the Editor" column, where we feature commentaries from Linda Wilson, Robert Wahl, and President George W. Bush. In case you missed them, there are several excellent recent articles in our archives: Mike Bohling contributes two great pieces, a commentary on the abuse of women entitled "Nowhere to Hide, Ever (A fist full of love)" http://www.faulkingtruth.com/Articles/CommentaryToo/1022.html , and one on religion as a personal choice called "The Lonesome Gods" http://www.faulkingtruth.com/Articles/Commentary/1026.html S.K. Eleton contributes a unique perspective on religious persecution in "Confessions From the Closet" http://www.faulkingtruth.com/Articles/CommentaryToo/1021.html Robin Buckallew's "Flirting With Disaster" http://www.faulkingtruth.com/Articles/GlobalWarning/1023.html looks at so-called "natural disasters", and how we contribute to them. And finally, Down The Middle has several recent pieces that can be found in our archives under "Down the Middle and To the Left" http://www.faulkingtruth.com/Archives.cgi Until next week (shut up, I know what you're thinking), Happy Faulking Valentine's Day! (Editor's note: On March 19, we celebrate the one-year anniversary of The Faulking Truth, and the two year anniversary of the date that President Bush declared war on Iraq. While I'm not certain that our President will publically acknowledge either our anniversary or the war's anniversary, my sources have indicated to me that the FBI is planning some type of top secret surprise party at my home on that date. I've been spending hours in front of the mirror practicing my "Oh my gawd, I can't believe you guys did this for me, you sooooo shouldn't have!" look. I'll let you know how that soiree goes, or you can read about it in the society pages of the Oklahoman the following day.)
